It started in the beginning of summer 2007. I felt a lump over my left breast. I am in my mid seventies, thought of myself as healthy, as I rarely got sick, stopped smoking 40 years ago, no alcohol for thirty years. My husband and I were scheduled to fly to England in September, then go to Portugal and sail to Barbados, so I delayed in saying anything.

Finally I told my husband and still not believing it was anything serious, saw a doctor in north east Pennsylvania where we spend the summers who immediately wanted to schedule surgery. When we told him we were going to our condo in Florida where we could get holistic treatment, he said with heavy sarcasm, "I wish you luck."

We cancelled our trip, as the doctor assumed the lump was malignant. This was devastating news, as I thought I never would get cancer. I certainly did not want the usual treatment of surgery, chemo and radiation given to those I knew with cancer who subsequently died. We found a clinic close to our condo and I received Vitamin C IV drips with hydrogen peroxide, and chelation therapy.

A blood test showed "cancer markers" to be 88, when 36 is a high normal. We were advised to get a biopsy and ultra sound to confirm the diagnosis, which was done. The doctor told me I was scheduled for surgery to remove the lump and also the lymph glands, which were not affected, as the tumor appeared to be encapsulated. When I questioned removing the lymph glands, he said, "That's what we do." I requested a copy of my reports and said I wanted to think about it.

Meanwhile, we had heard of Natural Therapies and Spa in Tijuana, Mexico. We spoke with Thomas Peterson, RN, the administrator who told us the usual stay for treatment is three weeks. There are three full time medical doctors on staff who have 20+ years of experience with holistic cancer treatment, and nurses who are on site day and night. We flew to San Diego on October 8th, where we and two other couples were met and driven to the facility. I was given a thorough examination and blood test and started on the treatment which included IV drips and my therapies designed to eliminate cancer cells.

Cancer cells are undifferentiated cells in that they belong to no part of the body, such as heart cells, muscle cells, bone cells, etc, and have no function except to grow in number. One cell divides into two, two become four and in several years one microscopic cell can become a noticeable growth. Also, active cancer cells need glucose to thrive and multiply, and will die in the presence of oxygen. Normal cells need oxygen, but not glucose. Oxygen therapy in the form of hydrogen peroxide feeds normal cells and kills cancer cells.

One of the important therapies is to lower the blood sugar with insulin, then introduce an IV drip of glucose with a small amount of chemotherapy. The cancer cells crave the glucose and in absorbing it also take in the chemo which kills them. Normal cells are unaffected as they don't attract glucose, so there are absolutely no adverse effects so common with the massive doses chemo routinely given to cancer patients. The blood sugar is carefully monitored and brought back to normal. This therapy is given three times a week.

Other therapies include hyperthermia, deep heat penetrating to the cancer cells, dry heat sauna with ozone pumped into the sauna which is absorbed by the open pores and nourishes the normal cells and eliminates cancer cells, and the aforementioned Vitamin C drip and chelation. The day starts after breakfast at 9 AM and ends at 4 PM, as an IV drip can take three hours. Treatment days are every day except Sunday.

Emphasis is placed on diet and nutrition. As cancer cells thrive on glucose, we were strongly urged to avoid sugar, starch and carbohydrates. That means bread, cake, white rice, potatoes, ice cream and all the sugary goodies we like to treat ourselves to. As we were told, when you eat sugar, you are feeding your cancer.

The Natural Therapies and Spa facility looks more like a luxury vacation spa than a clinic for treatment. Patients have their own private room with accommodations for a companion. The building is on a hill with a panoramic view of the city looking toward Sand Diego. The lights at night are spectacular. A comfortable dining room, a fully equipped kitchen serving nutritious and delicious meals, a TV room with a baby grand piano, an exercise room, a pool table, a large hot tub spa, gardens to walk through and a sun-filled central plaza. Patients can avail themselves of these amenities on Sunday, or when they have time available, or ride to town to the modern mall.

We met patients who came here from all over the U.S., Canada and one couple from Australia. There were patients who were given months to live by their oncologists who are doing well five years later and come here once or twice a year for checkups.

At the end of three weeks we were driven to San Diego and flew back to our condo in Clearwater, Florida. The cancer markers had dropped from 88 to 77. I had the home protocol – the supplements, a personal dry heat sauna, an ozone generator and my new diet regimen. Following through on cancer treatment means a change in life-style. One just can't go back to what they were doing before and expect the cancer to go away.

I returned to the clinic at home for once a week Vitamin C infusions and chelation therapy. Further blood tests showed the cancer markers had dropped to 60. I kept in phone contact with the doctors at Natural Therapies and faxed copies of my blood tests. They strongly suggested I get a PET/CT scan which would show my metastasis. The brochure I was given that explains the procedure says, "Growing cancer cells use glucose as a primary source of energy. A form of glucose which emits particles called positrons, is injected into the patient. The molecules are consumed by the cancer cells and the scanner provides images of the locations." I they know this, then why don't oncologists do what Natural Therapies does and mix a small dose of chemo with the glucose to kill the cancer cells?? The brochure also says that your last meal before the test should be high in protein and low in carbohydrates, yet patients are not told to modify their diet. My test was done early March 2008, and it showed no metastasis and the tumor appeared smaller.

I have great confidence in the doctors at Natural Therapies and Spa. They are warm, compassionate and take time to listen. There's none of the "big doctor superior attitude." From the maintenance staff to the kitchen personnel, everyone is friendly and outgoing. In less than a week, one feels like family.

We know that the holistic care available in Florida, fifteen minutes from our condo, would be a few hours away from our summer place in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, so we made arrangements to return to Natural Therapies and Spa in April for another three weeks. Incidentally, while in Florida we were each receiving chiropractic adjustments once a week. My husband is a retired chiropractor and that had a lot to do with my choice of care.

Immediately upon returning to Natural Therapies and Spa on April 15th, I was started on the protocol that helped me so much on our last visit. A blood test showed the cancer markers were down to 45, a major improvement from the 60 of the previous test. I am certain that my rapid improvement – cancer markers down from 88 in October to 45 six months later with no adverse effect – had a lot to do with not having any surgeries or massive doses of chemo before I came here. Also following through at home with the recommended supplements, diet and home treatment.

My advice to anyone who has been told they have cancer is to take control of their own life. No one has the right to give you six months to live, or to fill you with fear of an uncertain future, and insist that surgery be performed immediately. Call Natural Therapies and Spa, talk to Thomas Peterson and make your own decision. I did, as have many others before me. And if you have had surgery and chemo and are looking for a better way to fight your cancer, you'll be doing the right thing by calling Natural Therapies and Spa.
